Research

My research interest falls within the interdisciplinary reach of cognitive psychology, education, and technology. Generally, I am interested in how people learn, how learners interact with educational technology, investigating what barriers learners face when learning, and what can be done to address inequities in education. Along this line, I have conducted research in several different realms:

  • Understanding the role of individual differences in executive function when learning from immersive virtual reality (IVR)

  • Using generative learning strategies to enhance online learning

  • Investigating the implementation of instructional design techniques in online learning

  • Determining how affective qualities of an instructor impact learners' perception of learning and learning outcomes

  • The use of augmented reality in language learning

  • The role of sense-making in solving procedural math problems
